March, 2013 Schedule
posted - March 1st, 2013
The Tuesday 7:15PM time slot will temporarily change from Taekwondo Ages 20 & Up to Demo Team Practice between now and the next Demonstration on May 5. Adults ages 20 and up normally in the class are encouraged to participate in the demo or simply train with the demo team during that time. They are also encouraged to come to Hapkido class on Mondays 6:15PM and Thursdays 7:15PM to continue their Hapkido introduction. Effective May 6, the schedule will return to its normal posted times.
Effective immediately, all belts white-with-yellow-stripe through red will need to pass a "pre-test" before being allowed to test for their next belt. The "pre-test" is simply a single instructor review of the candidate's form. The instructor will take this time to give personal feedback and preparation for the test. The "pre-test" is intended to encourage each candidate to practice at home and seek out the advice of instructors. Candidates will want to request a "pre-test" a week or two before the gub test to make corrections and incorporate any instructor advice. Once satisfied, the instructor will "sign off" on the candidate by attaching a white stripe to the candidate's belt. The "pre-test" can be done within or outside of the formal class time. Note that passing the "pre-test" is not a substitute for the 16 required classes between gub tests.
In an effort to provide broader self-defense knowledge, part of the Hapkido curriculum will be integrated in some Taekwondo classes. Hapkido is a grappling martial art that employs joint-locks and throws, which compliments Taekwondo's use of kicks, blocks, and punches. Hapkido belt testing remains separate from Taekwondo testing and will probably occur every 3-4 months. The following classes will have periodic Hapkido training:
*Monday 5:30PM Taekwondo Ages 4-11 Brown & Up
*Wednesday 7:15PM Taekwondo Ages 12 & Up Blue & Up
*Tuesday 7:15PM Taekwondo Ages 20 & Up Blue & Up Hapkido will resume after the Demonstration at the Towson Spring Festival on May 5.
The date of the March Taekwondo Gub Test will be Thursday, March 28. Kids will start at 4:30PM and adults at 6:00PM; there will be no evening classes that day. Good luck, testers!
Blue Dragon will be closed to celebrate Easter on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30.
Future Schedule Notes:
Saturday, April 20 is the Annual In-House Tournament, a favorite among Blue Dragon students! This is a Blue Dragon only tournament modeled after state, regional, and national Olympic-style Taekwondo tournaments. Students are grouped into divisions with other Blue Dragon students of the closest belt rank and age, and compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals! Events are forms, breaking, and sparring, or any combination of the three, so students can win three medals! Blue Dragon instructors and senior black belts will judge, so it’s the best time to get some competitive experience in a low-pressure environment. This is a great way to get started in your competitive career, enhance your competitive skills for the Maryland State Taekwondo Association Tournament on May 11, develop a board breaking routine, or just have fun and challenge yourself and your friends. Check out pictures from prior years under the “photos” section of this website. Put your training to the test! There will also be a short demonstration by the Blue Dragon Demo Team and the National Anthem will be sung by Blue Dragon’s resident vocal star Hope Yang. Events start at 10:00AM; there are no classes that day.
M. Joe is planning Blue Dragon’s second paintball outing tentatively Saturday, April 27, 1:30-4:00PM. The previous outing was a blast! This is a friendly social event open to friends and family, minimum age 10. The location is Route 40 Paintball Park, 11011 Pulaski Highway, White Marsh, MD 21162 www.route40paintball.com. We need enough interested players to book the reservation, so sign up at the front desk ASAP! Cost is $15 per player plus the cost of paint divided among the players, which includes mask and gun. Check out pictures from our last outing under the “photos” section of this website. We hope to see you there!
The Blue Dragon Demonstration Team has its next demo at the Towsontown Spring Festival on Sunday, May 5 at 1:00PM on the Information Stage in the heart of this outdoor festival. Come check out what the Demo Team has been hard at work practicing, and show support for your fellow Blue Dragon students! This is our biggest venue yet!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day and Happy Easter!
